Recovering Valuables From Your Car Policy Change

 In Blog

There was a recent policy change at Chappelle’s Towing regarding how vehicle owners can remove personal items from their cars. In the past, Chappelle’s allowed people to recover valuables from their car with a signed title document and proper identification.

Unfortunately, there was an incident where a client presented a signed title document for the vehicle and we allowed him to recover his valuables. When the car wasn’t recovered, we sent the client to collections. However, the signed title document was never registered with the state. Hence, we weren’t able to collect.

In order to remove personal items from a vehicle now, you have to be the registered owner of the vehicle and remove the items during normal working hours (not including holidays). You will need to take the signed title document to the Department of Motor Vehicles and register the car in your name before removing personal items.

However, if you are coming to pick the car up, you only need the signed title document and appropriate identification. That policy has remained the same. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. Feel free to contact us for more information.
